Project
During the COVID-19 pandemic, it became essentially crucial to follow social distancing norms and avoid physical contact to contain the spread of the virus. Since the biometric fingerprint device violates the physical contact rule, I, along with my team, siezed the opportunity to use deep learning to replace the existing biometrics system used for recording employee attendance and build a software to make the process contact-less. This was a learning opportunity for me and my team while also a chance to work on a real-time problem.
In order to avoid biometrics, we proposed detection and recognition of a masked-face using deep learning by taking the photo of the employee using a mobile application. This way an employee, when in the university premises, can register their attendance directly through their phone. Additionally, a web application for the admin to manage the records of all employees and use the data for further analysis. A multi-service backbone to connect these modules together to the database.
